South Africa got a deserved draw against Nigeria in an AFCON 2015 qualifier in Cape Town on Wednesday as the current African champions endured a tough session in this qualifying round starting with a 2-3 loss at home to Congo Brazaville who are now tops in Group A after two matches.
Below is what Soocer Laduma wrote on their performances:
Jali rolled up his sleeves to make nine tackles in the match which shows his willingness to get stuck into opponents in order for his attacking players to express themselves. Alongside his midfield partner, Dean Furman who also had a fantastic match, the duo bossed the midfield for large parts of the match.
Mikel made only three tackles in the 90 minutes, however, Ahmed Musa seems to have been the one putting in the tackles for the Super Eagles.
In possession Jali edged the efficiency over Mikel making 50 successful passes from 59 attempts giving him an 84, 75 successful pass percentage.
Chelsea’s Mikel managed 55 successful passes, however, he attempted to make 67, which gives him a successful pass percentage of 82, 09.
Jali eventually walked away with the Man of the Match award, which was a clear indication of who came out on top.
All stats aside, Jali seems to have gotten the better of John Obi Mikel who plies his trade at English Premier League side, Chelsea. This bodes well for the South African who himself is looking to make his name big in Europe while grafting away at Oostende in Belgium.
